How Does Lane Keep Assist Work On the 2016 Mazda CX-9?
If you’re either looking into or have already bought the all-new CX-9 midsize SUV, there are many exciting features you’ll want to learn about. One of those is the vehicle’s Lane Keep Assist System. This system is different from the Lane Departure Warning System, so there are a few things you’ll need to know in order to understand it. So, how does Lane Keep Assist work on the 2016 Mazda CX-9?
The Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning Systems might be a little different, but they work together to keep you from straying from your designated lane on the road. The entire system uses the Forward Sensing Camera to detect the white or yellow lane lines on the road. While the Lane Departure Warning System can alert you if your vehicle appears to be deviating from these lines through an audible warning and by vibrating the steering wheel, the Lane Keep Assist System can actually adjust the steering to keep the vehicle within its lane. That said, when you activate the turn signal, the Lane Keep Assist System will disable itself so you can make a turn or switch lanes without a problem.
Though the system is impressively accurate, it’s important to understand that it may not operate as intended in all circumstances. For instance, if a road has particularly tight curves or if the lane markers are unclear due to bad weather or no painted lines, the system may not be able to detect if you stray from your lane.
How to Turn Off Mazda Lane Keep Assist
These features may not appeal to all drivers, so if you’d like to turn them off, you can do so easily. Located to the lower left of the steering wheel should be a Lane Keep Assist button that looks like a vehicle between two lane lines with the word “OFF.” By pressing this button, the Lane Keep Assist System will be deactivated and a dashboard indicator light will illuminate to alert you to this. Before you turn off the entire system, however, keep in mind that you can also turn off the steering assist function without actually turning off the whole system. You can still receive lane departure warnings and see the lane lines displayed in the multi-information display.
