Hardtop 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF Release Date
Those who have been desiring a hard top on Mazda’s latest 2016 MX-5 Miata have now finally had their wish granted. But rather than just slapping a hardtop roof onto the current Miata, Mazda has taken the time to design an all-new model design. That’s right, the hardtop 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF release date is on the horizon and you’ll definitely want to check it out.
The Miata RF will certainly look similar to the fourth generation Miata, but the addition of the hardtop roof and fastback styling certainly set it apart. In fact, the RF in the name stands for retractable fastback. We’ll let the photos do most of the talking, but take particular note of the Miata RF’s buttress supports and back window, which retracts back behind the seats when the top is down.
The roof is operated electrically, and can be put down or up relatively quickly. In addition, it will operate at speeds of 6 mph or less. Better yet, despite the need to make room to retract the hardtop roof into the vehicle, trunk space compared to the 2016 Miata remains unchanged.
When Will the Hardtop Mazda MX-5 Miata RF Be Available?
Even with all these changes, drivers can expect the same thrilling and pure Miata driving experience. The same 2.0-liter SKYACTIV engine will come under the hood, meaning it is expected the Miata RF will produce the same 155 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque.
So, when will you be able to get behind the wheel? Although Mazda has not revealed an official time of release, it does appear the Miata RF has been billed for the 2017 model year. Some online have stated preorders will begin in the summer of 2016. If this is true, we might be looking at a release date earlier in the 2017 model year rather than later.
Either way, be sure to stay tuned to the Mazda of Midland blog for the latest information on the hardtop 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF release date. Like you, we can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
